Bio

Nick has spent the best part of the last three decades living everywhere except his Scottish birthplace. Highlights have been a half dozen years in Arabia, 4 in Hong Kong, 2 in Rio De Janeiro and a decade in LA/Joshua Tree. Nick has had the pleasure of collaborating on several projects with Two time Academy Award Nominee Lucy Walker including Sundance and HBO films THE CRASH REEL ,THE LIONS MOUTH OPENS and COUNTDOWN TO ZERO. They have also collaborated on a series ofTV commercials for TARGET and a series of short documentaries for Liberty Mutual. Other notable collaborations include Bess Kargman’s theatrically released ballet documentary FIRST POSITION (TIFF) & THE COACH (TriBeCa). Nick has also collaborated on Ezra Edelman’s ESPN 30 for 30 five hour mini-series about OJ Simpson. In addition to feature documentaries Nick is the resident DP and founding partner of THE DEPARTMENT OF EXPANSION.
LA / JOSHUA TREE
Since 2000 Nick has been based in California. He, his film-making partner in crime, Kristina Robbins, and their two kids (Finlay and Scarlett) flit between LA and their 5 acre desert retreat next to the Joshua Tree National Park.

RIO
From 1997-1999 Nick lived in Rio while working for GE. He played football 5 times a week, picked up Portuguese, how to dance Forro and Kristina, his wife to be, who was on holiday in Salvador, Bahia.

HONG KONG
From 1993-1997 Nick was based in Hong Kong and sold GE’s aircraft engines throughout SE Asia (and shot a LOT of stills and video). Life in Hong Kong was like college with lots of money.

SAUDI ARABIA
Nick lived in Saudi for 5 of his teenage years (c.1980). A dirt bike, a pool table and blazing sunshine made it very different from life in Scotland.

SCOTLAND
Nick was born in Edinburgh and went to school in the middle of the Scottish Highlands. He won the course medal at Napier University while obtaining his BA with Distinction in Business & Marketing and bolted immediately thereafter.
